Defense
| G | Games | Games played. |
| TKL | Combined Tackles | Solo tackles plus assists — the headline tackle number. SOLO + AST 100+ is a full season for an every-down linebacker |
| SOLO | Solo Tackles | Tackles made unassisted. |
| AST | Assisted Tackles | Tackles shared with a teammate. NFL only — CFBD publishes the combined total but no assist count. |
| TFL | Tackles for Loss | Tackles made behind the line of scrimmage. Shared tackles count a half apiece. 15+ is a disruptive season |
| SCK | Sacks | Quarterback sacks. A sack shared by two defenders is worth a half each. 10+ is a star pass rusher; 20 is historic |
| SKYD | Sack Yards | Yards lost by the offense on this player's sacks — halved along with a shared sack. |
| QBH | Quarterback Hits | Hits on the quarterback as he threw, sacks included — pressure a sack total alone misses. NFL only. |
| HUR | Quarterback Hurries | Pressures that forced a throw or a scramble without a hit. CFB only. |
| INT | Interceptions | Passes intercepted. 5+ leads most seasons |
| IYDS | Interception Return Yards | Yards gained returning interceptions. |
| PD | Passes Defensed | Passes broken up or intercepted — the coverage stat that doesn't need the ball to stick. 15+ marks a shutdown corner |
| FF | Forced Fumbles | Fumbles forced by this defender. |
| FR | Fumble Recoveries | Opponents' fumbles recovered. |
| TD | Defensive Touchdowns | Touchdowns scored on defense, on returns of interceptions and fumbles. |
